What is there to say? Well, ya know, not much. We're just a small family on a small budget who wants to have something besides 5 gallon buckets to sit on.
We started collecting free or relatively inexpensive stuff when we first go married. Two dining room tables, a love seat that barely fit down the stairwell, a bed from at least (at least) the 70s. As in 1970. As in more people have probably slept on that bed than are in my immediate family.
At first it was taken hesitantly. What else were we to do? But then it became not so hesitant. What's wrong with not having brand new name brand really nice looking stuff? My house was being populated by not only free stuff, but stories of how the free stuff was obtained. There was a little dumpster diving here, a generous friend or family member there, an eclectic person selling stuff on craigslist everywhere. And now I am proud to say that aside from my bed (we did get a new one) we have not spent more than $200 on the furniture in our house.
[If you came to my house, you might not be surprised by that figure, but at least we have a couch to sit on and food to eat and love on our premises.]
And now, 3 years later, and a pocket full of stories and a burning desire to not only collect free or nearly free stuff, but also make it presentable on a graduate student's budget...I present to you Living 2ndhand.
May you enjoy what you read, and even more, may you enjoy what you see, and most of all may you get some ideas for your own house that will save you a buck or two and bring your home decor and functionality everlasting joy!
